Tenancy property alterations and compensation: Outline
It is our policy to allow tenants to improve their homes. However, if you want to change or improve anything about your home you must get written permission from the responsive repairs and voids manager before starting any work. If you do not get permission, you may end up having to pay for the property to be put back to how it was.
Permission will be granted unless there is good reason not to allow the works and we will be pleased to offer help and advice which may provide long-term savings and benefits. Any improvements you make to the property will not affect the rent you pay. There is more information on this in your tenancy agreement.
Right to Compensation for Tenants Property Alterations
Customers can now receive compensation for certain types of improvement work when their tenancy is over. To receive the compensation you must ensure you were given permission first from Dale & Valley Homes to carry out the improvements works, this work will then be inspected to ensure it has been completed to a good standard.
If you owe us money, for example rent arrears or charges for damage, we can deduct this from any compensation awarded to you.
For more information, including how compensation is calculated please read the leaflet A Better Deal for Tenants - Your Right to Compensation for Improvements.
