Ending your tenancy

About Ending your Tenancy

Before you move out of your property you must:

  • give us 4 weeks notice, in writing, that you wish to leave the property;
  • replace broken or damaged items that belong to us. We will charge you for any repairs that are not a result of fair wear and tear;
  • make sure that the property is empty, as we will charge you if we have to clean the property;
  • make sure that you remove all your possessions and any rubbish from the outside of your property;
  • leave the property clean and tidy. We will recharge you if we have to clean the property;
  • return both sets of keys. If you do not give us all of the keys, we will charge you for the the cost of replacing the keys and locks;
  • give us your new address and phone number;
  • pay all rent and other charges up to the date of the end of your tenancy;
  • make arrangements to pay any arrears, as we will not be able to offer you another home until you do;
  • get a form from your local post office and redirect your mail;
  • tell everyone who needs to know your change of address-doctors, dentist, schools and the Department for Work and Pensions;
  • tell your gas, electric and phone suppliers that you intend to move. They will arrange to disconnect your supply on a set date and then arrange to send your final bill to your new address.

We will make an appointment with you so a housing officer can visit you and inspect your home. The housing officer will see if there are any repairs we need to do, which we will charge you for. A maintenance officer we will also inspect your home after you have moved out and may find more rechargeable repairs.
