Tenant board directors

Get involved, join the decision makers!

Dale and Valley Homes' Board of Directors is a group of fifteen volunteers who set the standards and make plans for our organisation. Of the 15, there are 5 tenant, 5 council and 5 independent board representatives.

Who can apply to join the board?

You can -as long as you are a tenant and not in serious breach of your tenancy obligations.

The person must:

  • be willing and able to spend their time and effort ensuring that Dale & Valley Homes is managed efficiently and effectively
  • care about providing an excellent housing service and getting the best possible value for money
  • be able to speak up in meetings and express their views

Dale and Valley Homes is keen to attract a wide range of tenants to become board members.

We positively promote the involvement from different age groups and offer help with transport costs and childcare provision to enable you to become a Tenant Board Member.

What will I have to do if I make it on to the board?

  • Contribute to and share responsibility for the board's decisions.
  • Prepare for and attend meetings, training sessions and other events.
  • Respect confidentiality of information.
  • Contribute from your own particular experience to help the board come to the best decisions.
  • You need to be a secure tenant/leaseholder of Durham County Council to be eligible for the board.

What happens if more than one person applies for a vacancy?

If more than one eligible person comes forward all Durham County Council tenants and leaseholders (people who have bought their flat) can vote in a postal ballot.
