About our Equality and Diversity Strategy

Dale & Valley Homes' equality and diversity strategy 2011-13 has been developed to ensure we are meeting our general equality duties regarding race, disability, gender, age, sexuality, religion and belief. 

The Government measures a public sector organisation's commitment to general equality duties through something called the Equality Framework for Local Government.

Our strategy is based around the five themes of the Equality Framework for Local Government.  They are:

  • knowing our community - equality mapping;
  • place-shaping, leadership, partnership and organisational commitment;
  • community engagement and satisfaction,
  • responsive services and customer care; and
  • a modern and diverse workforce.

Through this strategy we are aiming to get to the level of "achieving" within the Equality Framework for Local Government.  To reach that standard we must show we have:

  • gone beyond basic understanding of equalities
  • shown public commitment towards developing and publicising outcomes from equalities work carried out
  • recognised and addressed inequalities through our customer profile and equality impact assessment action plans
  • monitored all relevant customer and employment data we hold against the general equality duties
  • made sure, through these equality impact assessments, that appropriate business delivery plan, directorate action plan, team plan and personal development review equality objectives have been set.
There is a further duty for Dale & Valley Homes to publish information that explains how we are using the equality information collected to shape and deliver the services we provide.
